The Wilanów Nature Reserve
It is a partially protected area, covering 67,16 hectares, and was established in 1996. The reserve includes a natural mixed forest dominated by beech trees. It has a diversified surface with a lake and steep banks of the Pełcz River. Here, oak trees of decent size, rarely tall pine trees can be seen. The big trees give the reserve the character of a primeval forest. It is the West-Pomeranian oak-hornbeam forest altering slightly in its lower parts where the plant called dog's mercury appears. The beech forest changes its character creating a complex of Pomeranian beech forest. Going down the slopes of the river it changes again. Here, one may meet true-grasses and woodruff and lots of acidophilic organisms. In other areas, there are ferns, whilst on muddy surfaces birches and large areas of mosses and peat mosses grow. The reserve is of educational and researching character, for ecological education. It is of certain importance for practical actions in forestry.
The Beeches of Zdroisk Reserve
The reserve was established in 1983 in order to protect a fragment of natural mixed forest with vast areas of beeches with its characteristic herbs. The reserve is located on the Gorzów Plain on the border of the Strzelce Krajeńskie, Santok and Zwierzyn communes, in the neighborhood of the picturesque valley of the Santoczna River. Its total area covers 75,57 hectares of land . 73,7% of it are beech forests with additions of oaks and hornbeams. The majority of trees are older than 50 years old, with numerous examples of 200 year-old trees . The most popular trees are beeches, oaks, hornbeams, oaks, elms, birches, pine trees and spruces with rich additions of hazel, spindles, bird cherries and buckthorns.
The Przyłężek River Reserve
It is the animal life reserve covering the area of 35,08 hectares, located on the Gorzów Plain. Its aim is to assure proper conditions as a spawning ground for the Salmonidae fish family. A fragment of the Przyłężek River is protected, with clear and well oxygenated water, with spawning grounds of the Trout and The European bullhead. Down the banks of the river, there are impressive, one hundred year old forest of beeches, shading the river, which helps to maintain low temperatures of water.
